Lemurs

The Duke Lemur Center My workplace for the last twenty five years. An amazing collection of 21 different varieties of lemurs, lorises and bushbabies. Tours by appointment only, but our website is open 24 hours a day!

Lemur News For dedicated lemur lovers seeking the latest information (presented in dry, scientific terminology) on current field studies in Madagascar on lemur behavior, ecology and conservation. Many articles are in French. Get the latest scientific scoop on your favorite species of lemur!

Madagascar Fauna Group The Madagascar Fauna Group (MFG) is an international consortium of zoos and related institutions working together to conserve Madagascar's lemurs and other spectacular wildlife.

Lemur Conservation Foundation The Lemur Conservation Foundation (LCF), located in Myakka City, FL, is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of Madagascar's lemurs through captive breeding, scientific research, education, and reintroduction. In 1997, the 90 acre reserve was a completely undeveloped section of Florida scrub/mixed pine hardwood forest. Today it is a thriving research and education facility, where more than twenty lemurs of five different species roam freely throughout much of the year in two large forested enclosures.

Madagascar

Institute for the Conservation of Tropical Environments Without the sponsorship of Dr. Patricia Wright, the executive Director of ICTE (and the driving force behind the establishment of Ranomafana National Park), I would never have had the opportunity to visit Madagascar once, not to mention three times. This website focuses on the ecology of, and field research in, the Ranomafana area of the Southeast, but is an excellent resource for anyone interested in doing any sort of fieldwork or non organized travel to Madagascar (see the “Field Guide to Research in Madagascar” section for good advice about trip preparation.

Wild Madagascar A new, sprawling (perhaps a bit too sprawling) celebration of all things Madagascar, with sections on the countries’ culture, environment, animals, flora, conservation, history, economy, military, ethnic groups, fish, frogs – you name it, it will probably be here, somewhere, in this vast website.

Cortez Travel Cortez has been booking flights and organizing trips for tourists interested in Madagascar for years. Of course this website is an advertisement for their services, but it also contains excellent, up to date, practical information on essentials such as airline schedules, obtaining a visa, health and immunization requirements and general tips for would be traveler.

The Eno River

Eno River Association Since 1966 working to preserve lands and waters along the Eno River, a 33 mile long river running through Orange and Durham counties, some of the most rapidly urbanizing areas in North Carolina. The Association has succeeded magnificently, thus far preserving thousands of acres of pristine river parkland, a true oasis in the land of Sprawl.

Arts

Daisy Shepperd Up and coming wildlife artist (with a focus on lemurs!) Daisy Shepperd, does beautiful pen and ink drawings of your favorite prosimian or pooch.

Jennifer Miller Beautiful oil and watercolor paintings of the Eno, and other rivers and landscapes of the North Carolina Piedmont.

Bruce Perry If I had a ton of money and could travel to the most sublime landscapes, I, too, could take photographs like Bruce Perry. Yeah, right. He is a brilliant Scottish landscape photographer, visit this website for some truly extraordinary images. Browsing here made me yearn to visit places I had previously never thought twice about (Iceland)-- no other photography website has ever had such a strong impact on me.
